Welcome to a grand endeavor!
Hutch for Haiti – April 16, 2011 from Numana on Vimeo.
January marks the one year anniversary of the devastating earthquake that destroyed medical, political and even emergency service infrastructure in Haiti. Twelve long perilous months later, Haiti is still in the same condition as it was a year ago; some places have even become worse because of flooding, famine and disease. People are not just hungry, they are starving to death.
We know we can help.
This site is the main information portal for a great humanitarian endeavor that involves the entire community of Hutchinson, Kansas. With the intent to span all faiths, organizations, and ages for the sake of one common goal, we are committed to a partnership, in service, to provide food to the starving of Haiti. We will do this with the help of Numana, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) international hunger relief organization whose mission is to empower people to save the starving.
We will be posting more information shortly, but the main details at this point are these:
- The Rotary Club of Hutchinson has made the commitment to help organize this project – in conjunction with corporations, schools, churches and civic groups in the Hutchinson area.
- We will be raising over $78,000 in funds over the next 3 months in order to package and ship over 260,000 meals to be distributed directly to the hands of the starving people of Haiti. At only 30 cents per meal, the ingredients, packaging, administration, and international shipping are covered.
- April 16, 2011 is set as the date for our packaging event, where we will package, seal, box, and crate enough food to fill one large shipping container.
- We, as a community, can do this – so we should.
A Numana event is a festive hands-on opportunity to roll up your sleeves and feed the hungry. Children and adults of all ages enjoy assembling soy, beans, rice and vitamins into bags and preparing them for shipping. Participants are deeply changed by spending just a few hours to save starving people. In the past year, Numana has mobilized over 124,000 volunteers from coast-to-coast and packaged and sent over 21 million meals to disaster victims in Haiti. Please check back with us shortly as we will be posting much more information about this endeavor, our needs, and our progress.
We believe we are a community of great people, capable of great things. We invite you to learn more, to help, to serve, and to be the greater because of it.
